f your name isn't on the list at the left, isn't it time you added it. Yes, we are accepting your donations. And yes, it takes these donations, as well as some computer work and time on line on somebody's part, to keep a dust-free and current web site running these days. Contrary to what many would like to think, free web sites really don't exist, and good ones don't grow on trees, either - at least, sites like the ones supported by Friends of SHS58.

Friends of SHS58 currently provides the expense money to sponsor several award-winning Elmira Southside-related web sites. Among them are:

Southside High School Class of 57 Home Page
Southside High School Class of 58 Home Page
Southside High School Class of 59 Home Page
Southside High School Class of 60 Reunion Site
Southside High School Class of 61 Reunion Site
Southside High School Class of 62 Reunion Site
Southside High School Class of 67 Reunion Site
The Official Historical Web Site of the Parley Coburn Star
The Hopkins Street School Home Page
The Main & Water Home Page
The SHS Alumni E-Mail Registry
Remembering Elmira Web Page
Reunion Central Station
Mark Twain Adventures (The Hotel) Home Page
The Eldridge Park Home Page

While the parent domain of our web sites is SHS58.org, the theme of each of these sites is remembering an Elmira where many of us spent our formative years. The audience of folks that we get visiting our home pages are primarily Southsiders that graduated from SHS somewhere in the mid-1940s through the mid 1980s. The bulk of our audience comes from the 1950s and 1960s era. But we get visitors of all ages from as far away as Australia. Frequently we get somebody from good old EFA and Notre Dame - two of the high schools where Southsiders had many friends way back when.

In total, these web sites cost slightly less than $300 each year to rent the space, keep the domain registered, and maintain e-mail. This doesn't include the time our webmaster spends on line and on his computer keeping the sites current. That's a personal donation that he (Bill Cook) enjoys making on his own. Crazy, isn't he?

Many Elmirans and former Elmirans have expressed an interest in helping out with some of their hard-earned dollars, and because of their generosity, we've been able to make our monthly payments and keep the home fires burning, so to speak. Their names appear to the left and the list of what we call Friends of SHS58 is growing. We are very grateful for their help.

Personal donations have been between $20 and $30 and several have donated as much as $50. We really don't think big donations are appropriate here - and so we are asking that folks send no more than $50. Periodically, if you put your name on our list at the left, you'll get an update of our finances, just so you know where the money is going.

If you'd like to start a web site for your class as some above have done, we ask that you send us a one-time contribution from your reunion committee of $100 - this will get you a site similar to the SHS Class of 56, 57, 60, 61 or 62 sites so that we can post your reunion photos, give you a guest book and links to the Photo of the Month, and other Friend sites like Remembering Elmira, Eldridge Park Home Page, Reunion Central and Mark Twain Adventures.

We hope you’ll decide to join us. You can make your check payable to Bill Cook and mail it to him at:
