lane for me. I was born in Elmira and lived there until
my early teens. I attended Pine City Elementry and Parley
Coburn Elelmentry/JR High. My Mom, whom you may know
as Alice Balmer graduated from SHS in 1959.
The Tour of Elmira with Arney Greene is great. As for the SHS landmarks, I remember the Dixie and the bowling alley well. My sister and I spent many hours at the alley while our Mom or Grandmother bowled. Miasias had the best pizza ever. My aunt worked at the X-Cel for years. You have made me home sick.

take pride in SHS. Although I'm a grad of the class of
1987, I've had a great time reading all the stories. My
folks were 66 grads. My father played for coach Hurley
and I was fortunate and very honored to be the 1987
recipient of the Tom Hurley Memorial Scholarship.
Although our record left much to be desired, the memories
and pride of SHS football still burns within us all. I've
lived in NYC for 10 years now and really enjoy

tremendous. It brings back so many memories, including
the .20 cent grilled cheese sandwiches at Pitt's with a
.05 cent vanilla coke. I spent every lunch hour at
Pitt's, and my mother thought I was buying school
lunches. Well, at least I think she thought that - Mom's
had a way of knowing what was really happening.
I even remember a few of the '58 names. Paula Von Hendy
lived right up the street from me (I lived at 450 Cypress
Street) and she lived on the corner of Cypress and ?
(can't remember that street). (We think it was Perine Street)
I also remember Mary Costello, she was my back door
neighbor, and I haven't heard anything about her for the
last 40 years. I just sent her an e-mail.
I hope you all have a great 40th reunion. I really
enjoyed this page. Hope you all are healthy and happy.
