We're goin' back to the Dixie, but not the Dixie Barbecue this time. It's the Dixie Crossroads in Sunny Titusville, FL. On Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. meet us for dinner at the world-famous Dixie Crossroads Restaurant (click here to see map). That's where we'll be meeting for the Annual Elmira Day. This is a unique and with it place known all over the East Coast for its world famous Rock Shrimp. Back in 1997, three Southside alums, Ceci Bessone O'herron and Roberta Comfort Riggan (both from the SHS Class of 57) and Roberta's sister Jeannette Comfort Sawyer (SHS Class of 48) organized the Florida East Coast Elmira Day. And each year, more came than the year before. It was in Melbourne, FL, but a couple of years ago they had to suspend it, because the restaurant went out of business. So Ceci Bessone decided in 2006 that
we should find a new place, a little closer to Elmira (about 40 miles
closer), and did she pick a winner! So much so that, in 2006, 7, and
8, 9 and again in 2010, we're marking it an official Elmira Day on the
calendar and letting everybody know about it here at the Elmira Day
Home Page. This year, it's again the 2nd Tuesday in March. This restaurant
is sensational - world famous and everybody goes there even if they're
on their way to Once again, Elmirans and former Elmirans will be digging out those memories, telling jokes and timeless tales about yesteryear in Chemung County. So, spread the word, post a notice in your Community Centers, Senior Centers, and local newspaper social columns. This winter, if you're still stuck up north and are just imagining a reason for being in sunny Florida for a vacation or trip - this should convince you to come and get warm and see your old friends from the Elmira Area. And while you're in Titusville, hop over and take a tour of the Space Center. It's less than 10 miles away from the restaurant. Let's make this the best year ever. Hope we'll see you there! HOW TO GET THERE - OH, GOOD, A MAP Click here to see the map - just get on I-95 the quickest way you can and drive North or South, depending on where you start til you get to Exit 220.
