ack
sent this to us in color, but the colors didn't make it over the years,
and so we decided to post it in black and white. Click
here if you would like to see what it looked like before we decolorized
it.
Says Jack:
Too bad it
is not in color as the color of the car is "Camile Rose" -
Pink in any observer's eyes.
It is a 1956 convertable, with a continental kit on the rear. The photo
was taken in 1961 after I came home from service in the the army. I'm
standing in front of my home on Spaulding Street, across the street
from the Lovejoy's, and 3 houses away from Doug Christy's house.
I sold the car in 1962 and used the proceeds to pay for my first year
in College.
Driving it on the highway was a problem; with the continental kit lowering
the rear, it looked like it was speeding when it was standing still.
Police following cars that were speeding, and passing me, would slow
down and follow me.
One time I was pulled over outside the Notre Dame school zone and given
a speeding ticket. I was not speeding, nor were any of the 4 or 5 cars
around me at the time, who were not given tickets. I fought the ticket
and won when the cop told the judge that he had not clocked me, as he
had been traveling in the opposite direction. He told the judge that
he gave me the ticket because it looked like I was speeding .
The car was a lot of fun, but it served its purpose when it paid for
college.
