his
is another of Tom Burhyte's great photos. This one shows the Regent
Theatre peeking through Railroad Avenue's overpass on Water Street.
Two great movies would have been showing that day to some chilled,
slightly waterlogged moviegoers: Abilene Town starring
Randolph Scott and They Made Me A Killer starring Robert
Lowery and Barbara Britton.
Also
visible in the photo are some of the stores of the era: The
Cotton Shop and Friedman's Curtains. This was the flood
that downtown Elmira completely recovered from only to be hit
again 26 years later by the devastating 1972 flood. Anybody know
any good Flood of 72 stories? And while we are at it, how about
some Flood of 46 stories?
Thanks,
Tom Burhyte, for allowing us to show your photos here at SHS58.org.
