The Elmira Theatre

Aha! Trick question! The Elmira Theatre (now the Elmira Triple on College Avenue as shown on the map below) was actually located on State Street as shown in this picture. Here we are looking north on State Street circa the mid '60s (notice the Ford Mustang) toward the Elmira Theatre with its beautifully lighted marquis. The street was eventually widened on both sides to make way for the Clemens Center Parkway.

So where's Arney? Well, the theatre is showing Herbie Rides Again and Arney never cared for comedies so he definitely isn't at the movie. Maybe he went into the diner there on the right - what's the name of it? Shanackers? Not sure if that's even spelled correctly after all these years. Or was it the Mayfair Diner? Was that the name?Anyway, Arney is way ahead of us but we're gaining on him, surely we are! Let's keep searching as we learn more about Elmira back in the 50s.

Let's meet at Harold's Army Surplus Store but let's stop by Trinity Church first. Maybe Arney has been spending his solitude in the chapel after the stressful experiences suffered at the hands of the Class of '58.
