Editor's Note: We asked Bonnie Traum DiBello, SHS Class of 1960, to give us an update on what her older sister, and former SHS Cheerleader, has been up to since high school. Here's her report. Jackie left Southside High School for the final time on December 29, 2000. Yes, that year is correct. But she hasnt been post grading all these years. She retired from the Chemung County Social Services where she worked in the Welfare Department for 17 years. Her office was, of course, located in the old County Office Building which we all knew and loved, when it was our Alma Mater, SHS.
In the meantime she also became one of the most called upon substitute teachers in the Elmira school system, using her knowledge of Social Studies, Spanish and English. This also took her back to our beloved Alma Mater as a teacher. As an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, she sang in the choir, played the bells and participated in all of their activities. You may remember her love for singing and since her recent retirement she has become a member of the local singing group, Common Time. If you happen to attend one of their performances, she would love to have you say hello. Jackie and Chuck and their family bought the cottage that belonged to our Grandparents and Aunt and Uncle (and where Jackie and I spent every summer of our childhood) at Big Pond , Pa. They spent many summer days there with family and friends. Jackie was widowed in 1998 and continues to live in her home on Watercure Hill with her youngest daughter Amy and son Scott. She has been down to visit me in Florida a couple of times and hopefully will be down again soon. She has also been getting together with many of her old friends from high school and Girl Scouting days to have dinner. And she is the proud Grandma to 8 grandchildren. Jackies love of her family and her faith in God have made her a wonderful big sister to look up to. She sends her regards to you all and would love to hear from you.
